Habutae dyeing kit with video (4 ink colors)
Habutae dyeing kit with video (4 ink colors)
We will be releasing a kit that includes a video explaining how to use our popular "Suzuka Color Ink."
Until now, color ink dyeing has only been offered in workshops, but with an increasing number of artists incorporating dyeing into tsumami zaiku (folded fabric craft), many of you have probably seen it on social media and thought, "I want to try that too."
Even so, dyeing fabric can seem a bit daunting or difficult, causing some hesitation.
For those individuals, we asked Ms. Matsumoto of Ichirindo Hanare (Fukuoka), who has extensive experience in color ink dyeing, to supervise this project.
Once you understand the techniques, you're sure to find it enjoyable!
The video also demonstrates dyeing tassel decorations and using an airbrush for dyeing.
Ichirindo has specially commissioned a "Suzuka Sumi" color ink, a traditional craft from Mie Prefecture, with a consistent concentration specifically for dyeing.
Suzuka Sumi, beloved by many calligraphers, is not only known for its vibrant colors but also its high lightfastness, making it ideal for tsumami zaiku, which uses thin fabrics.
In this video, we asked Ms. Matsumoto to introduce key points for "tataki-zome" (beating dye), which is suitable for habutae silk dyeing.
The kit includes a generous 100 pre-cut 4-momme habutae silk fabric pieces for dyeing.
This page is for the 4-color ink set.
The video comes with a YouTube QR code.
Please try it out, watching it repeatedly as needed!
